The Home Server Guide

Your family's own Netflix. Ask for it here, watch it in Jellyfin. That's the whole trick.

⚡ The whole thing in 3 steps

  1. Ask for a movie or show in Seerr (the "requests" website).
  2. Wait a few minutes — the server finds it, downloads it, and files it for you automatically.
  3. Watch it in Jellyfin (the "watching" website/app) under Recently Added.
💡 You never pay, you never wait for adverts, and everything you request stays on the server until it's deleted to make room for new stuff.

📥 Step 1 — Asking for something (Seerr)

Open seerr.home-serverwex.ddns.net and sign in with your name (password can be empty — see the login section below).

  1. Type the show or movie into the search box at the top.
  2. Click the result, then press the blue Request button.
  3. Pick a quality — 1080p is the sweet spot; 720p if you're in a hurry.
  4. Done! You'll get a note when it's ready (or just check Jellyfin in a few minutes).

How long will it take?

Already released → ~5 minutes New episode on air → within a day Very old or rare → could take a while, we'll keep trying

Apps for requesting (optional — the website works everywhere)

🍿 Step 2 — Watching (Jellyfin)

Open jellyfin.home-serverwex.ddns.net, sign in with your name, and press play. Your profile remembers where you left off on every device.

TVs & boxes

In every Jellyfin app, the address is:

https://jellyfin.home-serverwex.ddns.net

If an app asks for a port separately, you can leave it empty — the address above is all it needs.

✅ The server now uses https — look for the padlock. Old links still work and upgrade themselves.

🔑 Logging in (all the accounts)

Pick your name from the list below. Leave the password empty — that's it. You can set your own password later if you want one.

🏠 What's actually on the server

The full map is on the dashboard at homepage.home-serverwex.ddns.net. Here's the plain-English version:

🎬 For everyone

JellyfinWhere you watch everything — movies, shows, music. This is your TV.
SeerrWhere you request things. Ask here and it appears in Jellyfin.
Pi-holeBlock ads for the whole house automatically. You don't have to do anything — it just works.
PrinterThe home printer's web page (prints, scans, supplies).

🔧 Behind the scenes (admin only — no touching needed)

qBittorrentThe download engine. Runs 24/7 behind a VPN.
Sonarr / Radarr / LidarrThe librarians. They find your shows, movies and music and file them neatly.
BazarrFetches subtitles for everything automatically.
Prowlarr / JackettThe searchers. They know where to look for content.
Grafana / Prometheus / Alertmanager / DozzleThe doctors. They watch the server's health and page the admin if something breaks.
PassboltThe family password vault.
RouterThe house router's settings page.

📏 Rules & things to know

Storage is not infinite.Everything you request uses space on the server's drives. Old stuff (80+ days untouched) is cleaned up automatically to make room. If things suddenly stop downloading, the drive is probably full — the server pauses itself to stay healthy, so just report it below and the admin frees space.
Quality and language can vary. Most things arrive in 1080p with English audio and subtitles. Sometimes a release only exists in lower quality, or with foreign audio, or with subtitles missing. That's not you doing anything wrong — it's the sources.
Old or niche stuff can take time.If nobody shares a 30-year-old show anymore, the server keeps trying in the background. Days, sometimes weeks.
If it's broken, say so.The form below goes straight to the admin, who gets an alert and fixes it. No need to suffer in silence 😄

🚩 Report a problem

Bad quality? Wrong language? Something missing? Fill this in — the admin gets an alert and sorts it out. This is the actual form, right here:
